Turtle Cove is a three-bedroom house right on the shore at Napili on the west coast of Maui, a few steps from the sand. Across the water lie the islands of Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi, and the sunsets can be watched from the balcony terrace. Inside, the house has the polish of a good resort. All three bedrooms have king beds and their own bathrooms. The master suite adds a walk-in shower and a Jacuzzi bath. From December to May, humpback whales migrate to these waters, and they can often be seen from the house. The rest of the year, the bay is good for snorkelling and swimming, often with Hawaiian green turtles close by. It suits a couple celebrating, a small family or two couples travelling together. As at all Hawaiian homes, the shoreline in front belongs to everyone.

Insider tip Come between December and May and keep binoculars on the terrace. The humpbacks pass close to this stretch of coast.
Why I choose it It gives a small group their own house on the water at Napili, with turtles in the bay and whales in season.
