Vinha Boutique Hotel is a salmon-pink 16th-century manor house on the banks of the Douro in Vila Nova de Gaia, a short drive upriver from central Porto, set in more than three hectares of formal gardens. Its theme is fashion. The signature rooms and suites are each designed around a fashion house, among them Missoni, Hermès, Ralph Lauren and Christian Lacroix, and the other rooms are no less polished, with marble bathrooms and Bulgari toiletries. There are 38 rooms and suites in all, many with views of the river. The kitchen is overseen by chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, a two-MICHELIN-starred chef with restaurants in Lisbon and London: Vinha Restaurant is the fine-dining room, Terroir Brasserie the relaxed one, and the Reserva Bar suits an evening glass of port. The Sisley spa has an indoor pool and treatments using wine. Picnics and dinners can be set up in the gardens. The hotel has its own pier and boat, which runs guests down the river to Ribeira, the UNESCO-listed heart of old Porto.
