Montage Palmetto Bluff lies on the May River in the South Carolina Lowcountry, between Hilton Head Island and Savannah. At its heart is a village of 50 clapboard cottages in the local Lowcountry style, with pine floors, fireplaces, large bathrooms with steam showers and tubs, and screened porches or balconies over the forest and lagoons. Alongside these are inn rooms and suites, signature residences and homes in Moreland and Wilson villages, about 230 rooms in all. The May River Golf Club has a Jack Nicklaus signature course, and Spa Montage has its own pool. Places to eat include the River House, the Octagon, Buffalo's and Fore & Aft, with smaller spots and private dining besides. For families there is a kids' club and babysitting, pools indoors and out, and days out on the river and by bike. The tone is quiet and contemporary-classic, and the resort runs holiday programmes through the year.
