Le Mouflon d'Or stands among chestnut trees and old cedars outside Zonza, a granite village in the mountains of southern Corsica, inside the island's regional natural park. It began as a Belle Époque hotel for travellers crossing the Alta Rocca and has been fully restored. The main house mixes antiques, salvaged stone and old mirrors with furniture made to measure, so the rooms feel personal rather than designed. There are 25 rooms and suites, plus two caseddu, the island's traditional stone cottages, all filled with light, and from May 2027 there will be 30 places to stay, including a new treehouse in the heart of the estate. The NUCCA Spa, added in 2026, covers 1,200 square metres and uses products drawn from the plants of the Corsican maquis. A Népita is the gastronomic restaurant, and from May 2027 a second restaurant opens beside the outdoor pool. The Aiguilles de Bavella rise behind the village, so walking is the obvious pleasure, and the beaches are about 40 minutes away, with Porto-Vecchio 45 minutes by road. Guests also have access to the Grand Hôtel de Cala Rossa on the coast, which makes it easy to split the days between mountain and sea.

Insider tip Use the link with the Grand Hôtel de Cala Rossa. Walk in the Bavella in the morning, then spend the afternoon on the coast and come back up for dinner in the cool.
Why I choose it It gives a Corsica journey a mountain chapter of real quality, with the sea still within easy reach.
