Calabash Hotel sits on the calm, sheltered beach at L'Anse aux Épines on Grenada's southern coast, a family-run Relais & Châteaux hotel owned and managed by the Garbutt family since 1987. Its 36 suites look over botanical gardens, each with a balcony or terrace, and all but two have an ocean view. They run from Junior and Westside Suites to Pool Suites with plunge pools and outdoor bathtubs, and two Hillside Penthouse Suites. Rhodes Restaurant serves seasonal Caribbean and Grenadian cooking at dinner under Executive Chef Nicholas Cherman, who is Grenadian, with the Piano Lounge for drinks before and after. Nori serves Japanese plates for sharing beside the main pool, and The Beach Club cooks the day's line-caught fish and pours juices from the family farm. The Spa at Calabash offers holistic treatments, and there are weekly yoga and Pilates classes, a gym and two floodlit tennis courts. Snorkelling gear, kayaks, Hobie Cats and paddle boards are complimentary, and an on-site dive centre takes small groups out. From January 5 to December 20 the hotel welcomes guests aged 12 and over.

Why I choose it A family-owned Relais & Châteaux hotel with Two MICHELIN Keys, only 36 suites on a sheltered swimming beach, and three restaurants cooking with the local catch and produce from the family's own farm.
