Hotel Le Toiny

  • Virtuoso
  • Best time: Mid-Oct to late summer
A private pool on a timber deck framed by palms, looking down a green valley to the sea.

Hotel Le Toiny has been a St Barths favourite since 1992, on the island's quiet south-east coast above Anse de Toiny, a beach the local surfers largely keep to themselves. Its 22 suites, with one or two bedrooms, are spread through some 42 acres of tropical garden, each with a heated pool facing the sea, and all were redesigned by Lady Bee Osborn. Villa Nureyev, once the home of the dancer Rudolf Nureyev, belongs to the estate. At La Table, executive chef Eric Desbordes, who has cooked at Eden Rock and at Le Bristol under Éric Frechon, serves sharing plates that marry Japanese technique and Latin American flavours, while the Beach Club, reached by the hotel shuttle, turns to Mediterranean dishes and the grill. Thursdays bring the Beach Extravaganza, which grew out of full moon parties first held in 2019. A Relais & Châteaux member, Le Toiny shows a quieter side of St Barths, with room, privacy and a coastline away from the busier bays, and the island's airport is a short drive away. The hotel closes in late summer and reopens in mid-October.
