The white stone facade of Palazzo Papadopoli rising from the Grand Canal, with mooring posts in the water in front.

Aman Venice occupies Palazzo Papadopoli, a 16th-century palazzo in San Polo and one of the grand palaces on the Grand Canal, and was the group's first city hotel. Arrival is by water, at a private landing that opens into a reception hall of soaring ceilings, frescoes and reliefs, with direct access to one of the very few private gardens on the canal and a second, hidden garden behind. Jean-Michel Gathy's restrained interiors sit against Rococo works and listed frescoes. On the piano nobile, the gilded ballroom is now the main dining room, with the Yellow and Blue Dining Rooms beside it under ceilings painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Arva serves harvest cooking drawn from the lagoon and regional farms, the Palazzo Kitchen Table offers a chef-led Italian take on omakase, and the canal-side garden opens for dining from May to October. A spa of three treatment rooms on a mezzanine uses the thermal waters, salts and clays of Salsomaggiore Terme, and a small roof terrace looks across the city towards the Alps on clear days. Excursions are led by chefs, art historians and writers.
