The Alpina Gstaad

  • Virtuoso
  • Three Keys
  • Best time: Jan to Mar (ski), Jun to Sep
A forested valley below rugged green mountains under a soft blue sky.

The Alpina Gstaad opened on December 1, 2012, with interiors by Hirsch Bedner Associates made by craftspeople from the Saanenland and gardens by Jean Mus. It was home to the first Six Senses Spa in Switzerland, with a 25-metre indoor pool, a salt room and a programme that now reaches into hyperbaric oxygen and cryotherapy. Megu, the Japanese restaurant, has interiors by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance and is led by Tsutomu Kugota, while executive chef Francesco De Bartolomeis oversees Monti, for Italian cooking, and the Swiss Stübli. The Japanese whisky bar holds more than 40 bottlings. For families or groups of up to six, the Panorama Residence takes the top floor: a duplex of 400 square metres with its own spa, sauna and outdoor jacuzzi. The hotel opens for two seasons, winter from December to March and summer from June to September, and January to early March is the classic time for skiing. Saanen's airfield is a few miles away for private flights, and Geneva is around two hours by road. The coming winter season runs from December 11, 2026, to March 7, 2027.
