St. Moritz owes its winter fame to the Badrutt family: Michelin credits Johannes Badrutt with persuading English visitors to try the Engadin in the snow, and in 1896 Caspar Badrutt opened Badrutt's Palace above the lake. Coco Chanel, Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock and Marlene Dietrich were early regulars, and a suite still carries Hitchcock's name. Rooms look over Lake St. Moritz and the peaks or across the village; the newer Serlas Wing was designed with Loro Piana Interiors and ACPV Architects, and the grandest suites are named for Hans and Helen Badrutt, with a Tower Penthouse above them all. There are 11 restaurants, from Nobu Matsuhisa's Japanese and Peruvian cooking under the dome of La Coupole and Jason Atherton's King's Social House to tableside service at the Belle Époque Le Relais, afternoon tea in Le Grand Hall and the Paradiso Mountain Club on the slopes. Palace Wellness adds private spa suites, a new infinity pool, a salt steam room and Ayurvedic therapies. The hotel opens for a winter and a summer season: summer 2026 ran from June 5 to September 7, and winter 2026 to 2027 runs from December 3 to March 30.

Why I choose it The house that made St. Moritz a winter resort, still its most glamorous address after more than a century.
