Rambagh Palace was built in 1835 and served first as a royal guest house and hunting lodge; Virtuoso describes it as home to generations of royals for more than 185 years, and some of its rooms are the former chambers of the Maharaja. It has been among Jaipur's leading hotels since the 1950s and is run today by Taj. The palace stands in Mughal gardens, and its restored rooms and suites are dressed with silk drapes and colourful artwork, many of the suites looking over the gardens. Dining is spread across Suvarna Mahal for Indian food, the Rajput Room, Steam for Mediterranean dishes, the Verandah Café and the Polo Bar, which serves finger food. There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, one of them heated, and traditional Indian therapies at the spa, which Virtuoso names Jiva Spa and the Taj site lists under J Wellness Circle, with Indian aromatherapy massages among the treatments. Palace butlers can arrange a private meal or a drive in a vintage car. Jaipur International Airport is about 30 minutes away by car, depending on traffic.
