SUJÁN Sher Bagh

  • Two Keys
  • Best time: Early October to mid-May, when the camp is open
A tiger walking through brush near water in Ranthambore National Park.

SUJÁN Sher Bagh was the first SUJÁN tented camp, built in 2000 by a family of wildlife filmmakers on the edge of Ranthambhore National Park, and it keeps an old-world safari style drawn from the 1920s. The MICHELIN inspector describes handcrafted rosewood furniture, brass bathtubs and stone showers, and a semicircular layout that keeps neighbours out of sight. There are nine Tented Jungle Suites, the more secluded Royal Sher Suite with its own plunge pool, and the Imperial Raj Bagh Suite, which has two bedrooms and a private pool. Meals are taken in a dining tent, cooked from the camp's organic gardens, farm and dairy, and the Jungle Bar mixes cocktails to its own recipes. There is a heated outdoor pool, the SUJÁN Spa, a library lounge and an outdoor fireplace for the evenings. Game drives in the park look for tigers, leopards and sloth bears among some 300 bird species, and the camp also offers cooking classes, visits to local charities and excursions to Ranthambhore Fort. Children of any age are welcome. The camp is open from early October to mid-May.
