SUJÁN Jawai

  • Two Keys
  • Best time: Late September to late April (camp season)
A leopard walking over rocky ground in the hills of Jawai.

SUJÁN Jawai is a tented camp of 10 suites set against the Aravalli Mountains in the leopard country of the Rajasthan steppe at Jawai, where Rabari herdsmen still graze their animals on the open land. It is the third of its founders' tented camps in Rajasthan, alongside SUJÁN The Serai and SUJÁN Sher Bagh, and the most ambitious of their conservation projects. The tents are contemporary in design. The Felidae Suite suits a group of four, the Royal Panthera Suite stands apart from the camp with its own heated pool, and Eden at Jawai is a private encampment of three double bedrooms with its own pool and lounge. Guests share a spa, a dining tent, a bar, a campfire and a heated pool. Days follow two safari drives a day in search of leopards, with biking, hiking, riding, village walks and visits to temples in between, and time with the Rabari herders. A conservation contribution is charged per person per night towards the work on the land. The camp opens for the season from about late September to late April, and the MICHELIN Guide gives it Two Keys.
