The Armenian Sarkies brothers opened Raffles in 1887, and a century later, in 1987, it was declared a National Monument of Singapore. Between 2017 and 2019 it was restored by the architects Aedas with interiors by Alexandra Champalimaud, reopening on August 1, 2019, with 115 suites, each with 14-foot ceilings and butler service. The history is everywhere. The Singapore Sling was created at the Long Bar in 1915, the Tiffin Room dates from 1892, and the Writers Bar recalls guests such as Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham and Rudyard Kipling, while the heritage gallery in Raffles Boutique tells the rest of the story. Dining is led by the two-MICHELIN-star 1887 by André, from Chef Patron André Chiang, alongside 藝 yì by Jereme Leung and Butcher's Block, while Raffles Spa offers a quieter retreat from the city. The Palm Court Suites look out over the gardens and palms that give them their name.
