Muzimu Lodge stands on the banks of the Mussicadzi River inside Gorongosa National Park, a wilderness of some 4,000 square kilometres at the southern end of Africa's Great Rift Valley in central Mozambique. It was the first lodge of Turismo da Gorongosa, the park's tourism operator, and it is small: six canvas chalets in the East African style, each with its own bathroom and a generous deck looking out over the bush. The main area has a dining room with a panoramic deck, a bar and lounge, and a swimming pool, with Wi-Fi and mobile reception on local networks. Days are spent on open game drives with the park's guides, on longer safaris across the park, and on cycling trips through the nearby communities, and the birdwatching is a highlight. Guests may see lion, elephant, buffalo and several kinds of antelope. The lodge is not suitable for children under 12; those aged 12 to 16 share a room with an adult of their family, and guests aged 16 and over may have their own room.
