Hot air balloons floating over the rocky landscape of Cappadocia.

Museum Hotel is in Uçhisar, in the heart of Cappadocia, and calls itself the region's only member of Relais & Châteaux. It is built into the volcanic rock in the troglodytic manner of the area, where early Christians carved whole cities into and beneath the stone, and its rooms are modern versions of those cave dwellings, with exposed rock softened by thick woven rugs and gilt mirrors. True to its name, the hotel is filled with the owner's collection of tapestries, furniture and objects from the Roman and Ottoman periods and others, and Virtuoso notes that a room might include an 11th-century arch or an inlaid stone bedstead from the 1700s. Some cave suites tuck the bath beneath a natural rock awning, and rooms look out over the valleys and the stone houses still lived in by local people. Lil'a, the restaurant, cooks both classic and modern versions of the regional cuisine among the antiques. There is a pool, and the hotel is part of the Indigo Group. The MICHELIN Guide gives it Two Keys, and the hotel is also a Virtuoso property.
