Argos sits in Uçhisar, a small village in the UNESCO-listed landscape of Cappadocia, on a slope looking across Pigeon Valley to Mount Erciyes. The hotel grew from a former monastery, and the network of old tunnels found beneath it now holds a restaurant, meeting rooms, a concert hall and a wine cellar. Arches, vaults and heavy rough-cut stone run through the buildings. There are 71 rooms and suites in nine categories, many cut into the rock, from standard rooms to cave suites, two-bedroom suites and a Grand Cave Splendid Suite; some have terraces and a few have a pool inside the cave. Seki serves international and Mediterranean food and Nahita cooks Anatolian dishes, each with its own lounge, and the kitchen buys within 60 kilometres and grows herbs and vegetables in the garden. The Argos Spa is set under stone arches, with a hammam, sauna and gym, and the heated outdoor pool stays open through the year. Hot-air balloon flights over the valleys can be arranged from the hotel.
