Ahãma

A bay surrounded by trees and mountains.

Ahãma takes its name from an ancient Lycian word for beloved, and stands on its own sheltered bay at Günlüklü, near Fethiye, on the Turkish Riviera, a short way from the yachting harbour of Göcek. The hotel is set among liquidambar trees and pine forest above clear water, and the house describes its style as bohemian, with design and product choices made with nature first. Rooms are spread through the forest: 30 cabanas and 29 guest houses, with one private villa for those who want more space and privacy. The kitchens draw on Göcek and the Aegean, and the dining names listed on the official site are Ay, Ege, Glasshouse, Mezkla, Umi and Karşı Koy. There is a wellness programme drawing on old and new practices, yachting from the bay, and a programme of music and cultural events through the season. The MICHELIN Guide awards it One Key and describes a slower rhythm shaped by nature and stillness. From here it is a short drive to Kayaköy, the abandoned village on the hillside, and to Saklıkent Gorge.

Insider tip With six places to eat on one bay, ask the hotel which are open on your dates before you plan dinners off the property.

Why I choose it A forest hideaway on a private bay near Göcek, with cabanas under the pines, several restaurants and the islands on the doorstep.
