Alavya is a small hotel in Alaçatı, the stone village on the Çeşme peninsula of the Aegean coast. It opened in 2014 across six restored village houses, joined together, on ground that was once an orchard and an open-air cinema. The old stonework stays, and Hakan Ezer's interiors work around it. There are 25 rooms, each one different. The Classic rooms keep rough-hewn stone, arched windows, fireplaces and private patios, while the Premium rooms are lighter, in pale wood with open terraces; two lofts, Turquoise and Jade, are the largest. The garden is the heart of the place, with a pool and, in the evening, a DJ, small Mediterranean plates and local wine. Mitu serves food through the day, Mitu Lokanta cooks Aegean dishes at night and there is a patisserie for the morning. Miboso Spa has a sauna, steam room and massage rooms, and there are yoga and Pilates classes and a gym. The streets of Alaçatı, with their shops and restaurants, are on the doorstep.

Insider tip Spend at least one evening in the garden: the hotel's small plates, local wine and music make it a fine place to spend an evening in Alaçatı.
Why I choose it It is a quiet, well-designed base on the Aegean coast that lets guests enjoy Alaçatı on foot, and it pairs naturally with Ephesus.
