Marbella Club was founded in 1954 by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe on what became the Golden Mile: a low, whitewashed Andalusian village set in subtropical gardens that still sets the tone for the Costa del Sol. Its environmental record is measured and published. In 2024 it earned Positive Luxury's Butterfly Mark, scoring 77 per cent for environment, 76 for social impact and 80 for governance, and the hotel reports that it runs on renewable energy, having cut its carbon footprint by 62 per cent and its waste by 36 per cent. Food waste is tracked with LeanPath, waste is audited each year, and filtered water has replaced bottles. At Finca Ana María, developed with Louis Albert de Broglie, known as the Gardener Prince, and the Parisian house of Deyrolle, more than 300 varieties of fruit and vegetables grow, 100 heritage tomatoes among them, and chef Andrés Ruiz writes El Olivar's menu each day from the harvest. The hotel supports the SEAHORSEMED project for the Mediterranean's seahorses and local community partners. A seafront thalasso spa, a 5,000-square-metre Kids Club, an 18-hole golf course and eight bars and restaurants complete the picture.
