A long vaulted underground bath with a still pool reflecting warm orange light.

Hotel Alfonso XIII was built in 1928, ahead of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, and named for the king who commissioned it. It stands in the historic quarter beside the Real Alcázar and the cathedral, and it remains one of Seville's grand landmarks. The building mixes Moorish, Andalusian and Castilian styles, and the public rooms are full of hand-painted tiles, original marble floors, carved wood and antiques. There are 148 rooms and suites, furnished in the same spirit, and some look over the gardens towards the old Royal Tobacco Factory. The inner courtyard is a calm place for tea, the gardens are made for strolling and the outdoor pool is welcome in the heat of an Andalusian afternoon. For dining there is a Spanish restaurant, San Fernando, and a Japanese one, and the Bar Americano has an Art Deco look. Children are welcome and bicycles are free. From the door, the cathedral, the Alcázar gardens and the lanes of Santa Cruz are all an easy walk.
