Elcielo Hotel stands on Calle 7D in the Astorga area of El Poblado, the liveliest and most polished part of Medellín. It belongs to the chef Juan Manuel Barrientos, and the MICHELIN inspector calls it much more than a restaurant with rooms. The modern building has metal-screened windows and a green atrium garden, and its 28 suites, from Standard and Junior to Luxury and Presidential, pair modern furniture with hardwood panelling and travertine bathrooms. Elcielo Restaurant serves the chef's tasting menu, which MICHELIN describes as 17 courses, and the hotel also has Elcielo Bistró for à la carte meals, La Sere by Juanma for Italian food and a bar. The concierge can book tables at the chef's other restaurants in the city. On the roof, the wellness area brings together the Elcielo Spa, a jacuzzi, a steam room, a gym and an outdoor pool. Private transfers from the airport can be booked in advance. It is a practical base for Parque San Antonio, the Museum of Antioquia and Comuna 13, and for the evenings, the bars and restaurants of Provenza are close by.

Insider tip Book the tasting menu at Elcielo Restaurant when you book the suite, since it is the reason the hotel exists.
