Casa Akai is an eight-bedroom house in La Punta Estates at Punta Mita, on Mexico's Pacific coast, with views across the Bay of Banderas to Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta. It sleeps up to 16, and every bedroom has its own bathroom. Two master suites on the main level sit a few steps from the infinity pool, with handmade bathtubs and, in one, a private outdoor shower screened by palms. Upstairs, three Ocean Suites have wide wrap-around windows and soaking tubs that face the sea, and three Garden Suites each have a private terrace. Mexican craft, playful artwork and textiles run through the house alongside modern furniture. Outside there is a hot tub, a barbecue, a firepit and plenty of space for long lunches, and two formal dining areas seat 20 indoors. A secluded rocky beach is a short walk away. Guests have use of the neighbouring Four Seasons resort's beach clubs, courts and paths, some at extra cost, and the Pacifico and Bahia golf courses are a short golf-cart ride from the door.

Insider tip For a sandy beach day, head to the Kupuri or Pacifico beach club; the shore in front of the house is rocky.
Why I choose it Room for a large family in one house, with the facilities of a big resort next door.
