Awasi Iguazú takes the model Awasi first built in the Atacama and Patagonia into the subtropical rainforest of Argentina's Misiones province: every villa has its own private guide and 4x4, so each day is planned around the people staying in it. There are 14 villas, 13 standard and one Master Villa, built of wood with large windows onto the forest and raised on stilts so the jungle carries on beneath them. The lodge lies about 20 kilometres by road from Cataratas del Iguazú airport, and transfers from both the Argentine and Brazilian airports are included. At the falls, guides lead guests along the walkways to the Devil's Throat, ideally early, before the crowds. Away from the water, the lodge naturalist leads wildlife photography outings, and visits can be arranged to Guaraní communities nearby. The kitchen works with Misiones produce and Guaraní traditions, adapting a seasonal menu to each guest. October to April runs hot and humid, with January to March the wettest stretch, while April to September is cooler. Awasi Iguazú belongs to Relais & Châteaux, and Michelin awards it two Keys.

Why I choose it Private guides and vehicles for every villa turn Iguazú from a crowded day trip into an unhurried stay in the forest.
