Anjajavy le Lodge

  • Best time: May to October for walks and wildlife; closed mid-January to mid-March
A view over the ocean from a green hilltop.

Anjajavy le Lodge stands at the tip of a wild peninsula on the north-western coast of Madagascar, inside a nature reserve of nearly 11,000 hectares. No road reaches it: guests fly from Antananarivo with Madagascar Trans Air, about one hour 40 minutes, land on the lodge's own airstrip and are driven through the forest to the shore. The 24 villas are built of hardwood, each with a living room and a bedroom on the ground floor, a covered terrace looking out to sea and its own quiet air conditioning; some have a loft with two single beds that suits children, and eight stand apart for more privacy. The bathrooms were renewed in 2024. Stays are all-inclusive, with full board, an all-day snack menu and drinks from Malagasy rum cocktails to house wine. Days are spent kayaking, sea fishing, taking a boat through the mangroves at sunset, walking to caves, coves and the sharp limestone tsingy, and looking for lemurs among the baobabs, with the red rock formations of the Cirque Rouge nearby. Families are welcome, with babysitting, cots and children's menus.
