JOALI BEING, on Bodufushi Island in Raa Atoll, calls itself the Maldives' first wellbeing island. The architect Cüneyt Bükülmez of Atölye4N and the interior studio Autoban designed it around the island's forest, which was kept, and each of its 68 beach and overwater villas has a private pool, a butler, known as a Jadugar, and musical instruments for meditation. Everything turns on four pillars, Mind, Skin, Microbiome and Energy, developed with Professor Gerry Bodeker of Oxford University, an expert in traditional and integrative medicine. AREKA, the main wellbeing centre, has 39 treatment rooms, among them a hydrotherapy hall, a sensory deprivation room and a sound therapy hall. Around it are AKTAR, for herbal medicine with a resident herbalist; KAASHI, for hydrotherapy, with a banya and a watsu pool; SEDA, for sound; and CORE, for fitness. FLOW, the main restaurant, has three kitchens cooking from earth to table, there is a cookery school, and each day ends with a sunset ritual on the sand. The island holds EarthCheck certification and welcomes families, with the B'Kidult playground. In September 2026 it was raised from Two to Three MICHELIN Keys.
