Amanzoe sits on a hilltop above Porto Heli on the eastern Peloponnese, with olive groves falling away towards the island of Spetses and the Argosaronic Gulf. The architecture borrows from classical Greece: colonnades, pale stone and a long reflecting pool at the centre of the resort, with the sea in view from almost every terrace. Accommodation takes the form of 38 freestanding pavilions set on different levels for privacy. Each opens through a walled courtyard into high-ceilinged rooms finished in marble, and each has its own pool on a pergola-shaded terrace. Villas of up to nine bedrooms add more space for families and groups. Down at the water, a private beach club has its own cabanas and a casual restaurant, and the hotel will drive guests back up the hill. The rest of the day can be spent between the Aman spa, the yoga pavilion, the library and the tennis courts. Ancient Epidaurus and Mycenae are within reach for a morning out, and Athens is about two and a half hours by road or 25 minutes by helicopter.
