Amangiri, whose name means peaceful mountain, lies in a quiet valley on more than 900 acres of the Colorado Plateau at Canyon Point, in southern Utah, with views towards Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Zion within reach. The land has been home to the Navajo for centuries. A winding desert road leads to the Central Pavilion, built around a pool that wraps a stone escarpment, with the living room, library, gallery and the Dining Room, where an open kitchen cooks over a wood-fired oven. Two wings of suites run out into the desert in concrete, stone and rough timber, all 34 with broad terraces facing the desert or the mesas, some with their own pools. A short drive away, Camp Sarika adds 10 canvas-topped pavilions with plunge pools and fire pits. Stays are full board. The Aman Spa has hydrotherapy and floatation pavilions and a watsu pool. The Six-Bedroom Ridge Villa stands on nine private acres, with 12,000 square feet of living space, a 36-metre pool, its own spa and a villa host. Days are for slot canyons, via ferrata routes, riding and ballooning.
