Le Grand Contrôle is the only hotel within the grounds of the Château de Versailles. Jules Hardouin-Mansart, architect of the Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Trianon and the Royal Chapel, built it in 1681, and it later served the Controller-General of Finances, the highest office after the King, as his official residence. Airelles opened it as a hotel in 2021 after a restoration led by the architect Christophe Tollemer and guided by a detailed inventory of 1788. Maison Pierre Frey recreated fabrics from the Versailles archives, period furniture came from European dealers and auctions, and the lighting imitates candlelight. Rooms look over the palace, the Orangerie and the Swiss Lake. Guests are given private visits to the Château and the Trianon estate after hours, including the Hall of Mirrors. The Ducasse au Château de Versailles restaurant, devised by Alain Ducasse and run by chef Stéphane Duchiron, holds one Michelin star for its candlelit Royal Feast, served by staff in period costume, and La Table des Jardiniers is the more relaxed table. The Airelles Spa by LBA surrounds a 15-metre pool.
