The Reykjavik EDITION

  • Virtuoso
  • One Key
  • Open year-round; Jun to Aug for long days, Sep to Mar for the northern lights
A glass-fronted concert hall beside the harbour under a bright blue sky.

The Reykjavik EDITION stands on the Old Harbour at Austurbakki, next to the Harpa concert hall and a few steps from the shops of Laugavegur. Roman and Williams designed the interiors, adapting a mid-century modern look to the north with ash and pale oak, copper details, faux-fur rugs, made-to-order furniture and work by Icelandic craftspeople. There are 253 rooms and suites, many looking over the harbour to Mount Esja and, on clear days, the Snæfellsjökull glacier; at the top is a sixth-floor penthouse. Bathrooms have rain showers and Le Labo products. TIDES is the main restaurant, cooking seafood from Icelandic waters, with TIDES Café for coffee and pastries. The Roof looks over the city and the bay, and the Lobby Bar and Tölt add two more places for a drink. There is a spa, which the hotel runs as a social spa, and a gym. The drive from Keflavík airport takes about 45 minutes.

Insider tip Book TIDES for the evening you land, and go up to The Roof for the late light over the harbour.

Why I choose it Central, design-led and on the water, it works in summer and winter alike as the city base before and after the road out into Iceland.
