Soneva Jani occupies Medhufaru, an island in the Noonu Atoll, and most of the resort stands out over its wide, shallow lagoon. There are 58 villas, 51 of them overwater and seven on the island, and they are among the largest in the Maldives. Even the one-bedroom water villas are vast, with private pools, upper terraces and roofs that roll back over the bed, and many have a slide that drops from the upper level straight into the sea. Larger reserves and retreats add a second, third or fourth bedroom, and the biggest island and water villas run to well over 1,000 square metres. Families are well looked after at The Den, a children's world with a zipline, a pirate ship and a swim-up mocktail bar. Adults have the spa, padel and tennis, a dive centre, an outdoor cinema and an observatory for guided astronomy. Through the year, a visiting-chef programme brings visiting chefs from restaurants in the MICHELIN Guide, along with athletes and therapists, for set dates. Private wellbeing studios arrive in the villas from October 2026.

Why I choose it For families and friends, the multi-bedroom reserves with their own slides make Soneva Jani the overwater stay we suggest first in the Maldives.
