Luna Salada

  • Open year-round
The Uyuni Salt Flat stretching to the horizon beneath a cloudy sky.

Luna Salada stands at the edge of the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, in a remote corner of south-west Bolivia, and it is built almost entirely of blocks of salt. The village of Uyuni is about half an hour away. There are 30 rooms, in Standard and Deluxe categories with a Family Suite, decorated in bright Andean colours and kept free of televisions, so the evenings are left for the view and the sky. Tunupa, the restaurant, serves regional cooking and is singled out by the MICHELIN Guide as the best in the area, and breakfast is included. The MUXSA Lounge is the place to sit with a drink as the light changes over the salt. The Luna Salada Spa offers massages and a steam room with panoramic views across the flats. The hotel arranges tours on the salt flat by day and of the night sky after dark. It is a simple, characterful stop on the long road between the Bolivian altiplano and the Atacama, and a chance to wake up beside the salar itself.
