Les Sources de Caudalie has welcomed guests since 1999 among the Grand Cru vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, between vines and pine forest about 20 minutes from the centre of Bordeaux. The estate is run as an organic vineyard, and a natural hot spring rises beneath it, which led to the first Caudalie Vinothérapie spa: treatments use extracts from the grape and its seeds, alongside a heated outdoor pool, a hammam and a hot tub over a quiet lake. The main hotel has 62 rooms and suites, individually decorated by Alice Tourbier, plus a heated indoor pool in a glasshouse. La Grand'Vigne, under chef Nicolas Masse, is a two-MICHELIN-star restaurant; La Table du Lavoir is a country inn with a bistro menu, ROUGE is a wine bar and grocery, and French Paradox is the cocktail bar. There is a kitchen garden, a forest trail lined with sculpture, tennis, yoga and tastings at the château. A kilometre and a half away, La Chartreuse du Château Le Thil, an 18th-century house in an old park, has its own nine rooms and two suites. Saint-Émilion and the Arcachon Bay are both within reach.
