Hotel Bareiss began on May 1, 1951, when the war widow Hermine Bareiss opened the Kurhotel Mitteltal, a 25-bed house in the Black Forest village of Mitteltal near Baiersbronn. Her son Hermann took over in 1973, the name became Hotel Bareiss in 1992, and the third generation of the family now runs it, marking 75 years in 2026. The resort is built for families of all ages: a House of Games, an adventure playground and forest park, a holiday programme for adults and children all year, and a run of freshwater, indoor and outdoor seawater and natural bathing pools, with a sauna area beyond. Rooms, apartments and suites are furnished in Black Forest and country-house styles, and the Bareiss half-board stretches from early snacks at the pool bistro to a midnight bite at the bar. The family also runs the restored Morlokhof farmhouse of 1789 and two forest inns. In the gourmet Restaurant Bareiss, Claus-Peter Lumpp, in charge since 1992, has held a three-MICHELIN-star rating since 2007, and the Prix Villégiature named Bareiss its hotel of the year for children in 2022. There are 100 rooms, and the hotel holds Three MICHELIN Keys.
