Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

A green island with a jagged central peak across a calm turquoise lagoon.

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora occupies Motu Tehotu, a coral islet on the outer rim of the lagoon, facing Mount Otemanu across calm, clear water. Most of the accommodation is overwater: bungalow suites on stilts, furnished in teak, with plunge pools and steps straight down into the lagoon. A small number of two and three-bedroom villa estates sit on the white sand beach for those who need more space, the largest with its own pool. The lagoon is the centre of every day, with reef fish and coral close to the bungalows, and the team arranges snorkelling trips, jet-ski tours, sunset sailing and private dinners on a motu. Meals are taken outdoors with the lagoon in view, and the spa works vanilla and black pearl into its treatments. It is romantic, but it is also one of the more family-friendly resorts on the island, with separate programmes for young children and teenagers. Guests fly from Tahiti to Bora Bora's airport on Motu Mute, and the resort meets each flight by boat.

Insider tip Families should look at the beachfront villas; the children's and teenagers' programmes mean parents get time to themselves too.

Why I choose it Overwater living with Four Seasons service and a view of Mount Otemanu, and one of the few places in Bora Bora that works as well for families as for couples.
