Fasano Punta del Este

  • Virtuoso
  • One Key
  • Best time: Dec to Mar
A marina full of yachts in a blue bay, with white apartment towers behind and palm fronds in the foreground.

Fasano Punta del Este, in the Las Piedras area of La Barra, takes the Brazilian Fasano family's style inland, away from the high-rise beachfront. The architect Isay Weinfeld built it as a scatter of low stone buildings in the countryside along the Arroyo Maldonado, working with the original rock of the site and rustic craftsmanship. There are 30 bungalows in Deluxe and Suite categories, 10 apartments in the Locanda Fasano building and a set of villas, among them Golf Villas of 285 square metres by Carolina Proto that look over an 18-hole Arnold Palmer course. The look is clean and minimal, and the service is attentive and discreet. A swimming pool is cut straight into the rock face, and the spa building holds an indoor pool and a fitness centre, with trails for running, cycling and walking outside. The hotel has its own equestrian centre with stables and riding for every level, plus polo fields and a private beach on the river. Montevideo's Carrasco airport is about two hours away by car, and the beaches of Punta del Este are within easy reach.

Nearest airport
Capitan Corbeta CA Curbelo International Airport (PDP), 14 Miles / 22 Kilometres
Rooms
30 bungalows, 10 apartments and villas

Insider tip The suites are about twice the size of the Deluxe rooms, and a bungalow with its own patio gives more space again.

Why I choose it A quieter, rural take on Punta del Este, with horses, golf and the river on the doorstep and the beaches a short drive away.
