A tall waterfall dropping into a pool in a deep, green jungle gorge.

Fairmont Kea Lani opened in December 1991 on 22 acres of the Wailea coast, designed by Jose Luis Ezquerra with Francis Oda of Group 70; its name means heavenly white. It describes itself as the only all-suite and villa oceanfront resort in Hawaii, with 413 one-bedroom suites and 37 two-storey villas that add plunge pools and full kitchens. A renovation named Hoʻomaka Hou began in March 2022 and finished in late 2023, and in October 2025 Kō reopened under chef Matt Dela Cruz, cooking dishes rooted in Maui's plantation era. Pilina is the bar and sushi lounge, and Hale Kukuna is the resort's Hawaiian cultural centre. The Fairmont Spa has 13 treatment rooms, and one of the three pools is kept for adults. Polo Beach lies at the edge of the grounds. From September to May humpback whales visit the waters off Maui, in greatest numbers in January and February. For families, the room in a suite or villa and an easy beach make this a practical base on the island. The three-bedroom oceanfront villa sleeps eight across 2,200 square feet, with a private plunge pool, a full kitchen and Polo Beach at the door.
