Dwarika's Sanctuary stands high on a ridge in the Himalayan foothills at Dhulikhel, above terraced fields that fall away towards the Indrawati River, about an hour from its sister hotel, The Dwarika's, in Kathmandu. It is the property formerly listed as Dwarika's Resort, and it now runs as an all-inclusive wellbeing retreat guided by Vedic thinking and the Pancha Kosha, the yogic model of the five layers of a person. The 40 suites are built of timber and stone with handwoven linens, wood-beamed ceilings and Nepalese rugs, and most open onto a terrace looking over forest, valley or peaks; the Royal Suite has its own outdoor hot tub. The Pancha Kosha Spa is laid out as a small village drawing on Ayurveda and Buddhist medicine, and around it are the Ananta infinity pool, a Himalayan Salt House, a Meditation Cave, Chakra Chambers, a quartz Crystal Room and the Shiva Linga maze for walking meditation. Stays are built around set programmes, from a three-night introduction to six-night and eight-night courses in yoga therapy, immunity and weight management, with Ayurvedic consultations, daily yoga and breathwork. The kitchens cook from the group's six organic farms.

Insider tip The hotel's three-night signature programme suits a short visit; the six-night and eight-night programmes need more room in the plan.
