Potato Head was founded in Indonesia in 2010 by Ronald Akili, under the motto Good Times, Do Good, and Desa Potato Head in Seminyak has become a manifesto for how a hotel can deal with its waste. It became Indonesia's first carbon-neutral hospitality company in 2017 and is a certified B Corp. The Waste Lab turns the village's surplus materials, and waste gathered across Bali, into objects and décor. In October 2024 the Community Waste Project opened a 2,000-square-metre facility near the island's largest landfill, to help other businesses cut the share of their waste sent there from half to five per cent. The Sweet Potato Project farm has harvested nearly 10 tonnes of produce since 2023 and donated more than 74,000 community meals. The architecture is by OMA and the Indonesian architect Andra Matin. AM House is built from 1.8 million hand-pressed terracotta bricks made in the village of Darmasaba, one roof is woven from a tonne and a half of plastic to look like rattan, and suites come with a zero-waste kit, rugs and linens naturally dyed by Tarum and teak furniture made in Surabaya. It received its first MICHELIN Key in 2026.
