Aqua Blu is a 60-metre explorer yacht that lives full time in East Indonesia, sailing the reefs and volcanic islands of the Coral Triangle. She began life as a British naval survey vessel and later served as the private yacht of a European family, and in 2019 the Dutch yacht designer Cor D. Rover refitted her throughout, with brass and ivory interiors across five decks. There are 15 cabins for 30 guests, looked after by a crew of 30. Each cabin has a king or twin beds and a large bathroom with a walk-in rain shower, and two pairs of cabins connect for families. The sun deck has a wraparound sofa for evening drinks, the bridge deck has an outdoor jacuzzi and a small spa, and the forecastle deck holds a bar, a library and a shaded dining area. Days follow two excursions with the expedition guides: snorkelling and diving, kayaking and paddleboarding, hikes on active volcanoes and visits to old forts and villages. The Australian chef Benjamin Cross builds his menus around the spice route, and guests can join the cooks at local markets when they buy the day's catch.

Insider tip Families should ask for the connecting cabins (301 and 302, or 401 and 402) when booking, as they are the only pairs that join.
Why I choose it A small, steady ship with the range to reach the remote reefs of Raja Ampat in comfort, and guides who know the water well. For clients who want the Coral Triangle without roughing it, this is our choice.
