Adare Manor, once the family seat of the Earls of Dunraven, is a neo-Gothic house on the River Maigue in County Limerick, rebuilt between 1832 and 1862 for the 2nd Earl, with a great hall designed by Augustus Pugin. J.P. McManus bought the estate in 2015 and restored the house, which now stands at the centre of 840 acres of formal French gardens, woodland and parkland. Its championship course, redesigned by Tom Fazio, hosts the Ryder Cup in September 2027, and falconry, archery, clay pigeon shooting and fishing all take place in the grounds. Beyond the 103 bedrooms in the Manor House there are 18 lodges and two cottages, Rose Cottage and Lavender Cottage. Rooms are furnished with original art, Georgian-style pieces and rich textiles, with marble bathrooms. The Oak Room, panelled in wood and opening onto a glass-enclosed terrace, holds one Michelin star under chef Michael Tweedie for a tasting menu built on local produce. The Carriage House serves classic Irish cooking, and the Harry Lowe cottage is given over to chocolate. The spa is the only 111SKIN spa and clinic in Ireland, and the Padel Club adds a 17-metre pool. Beyond the gates lies the thatched village of Adare.
