Lucknam Park is a Palladian mansion of 1720 on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, six miles from Bath, reached by a mile-long avenue of beech and lime through 500 acres of parkland. It was a family home until it opened as a hotel in 1987, and it is now part of the Emblems Collection. Bedrooms are individually furnished with period pieces and antiques, the larger suites have four-poster beds and sitting rooms over the gardens, and nine self-contained cottages stand in the grounds. The estate runs like a working country house. Its Equestrian Centre accommodates beginners and experienced riders, with pony rides for children from four, and there are two floodlit tennis courts, cycling trails, a football pitch and The Hideaway for families. The spa, set in the walled garden, has an indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools and eight treatment rooms. Hywel Jones has held a MICHELIN star at Restaurant Hywel Jones for more than 20 years, cooking modern British dishes built on very good produce and careful sauces, and The Walled Garden Restaurant serves all day. There are 42 rooms and suites, with nine cottages, and the hotel holds Three MICHELIN Keys.
