Founded in 2005 on the southern coast of Koh Samui, Kamalaya takes its name from the Sanskrit words for Lotus Realm. Nestled among ancient granite boulders and lush tropical gardens, the wellness sanctuary overlooks 250 metres of private beach. At its spiritual heart lies a centuries-old meditation cave once used by Buddhist monks for quiet contemplation and retreats. Today, the cave remains a place of stillness and reflection for guests. Kamalaya brings together ancient Eastern healing traditions and Western medicine through 20 holistic wellness programmes, supported by a multidisciplinary team of Ayurvedic specialists, traditional healers, nutritionists and other wellness practitioners. Daily activities include yoga and qi gong, encouraging guests to cultivate greater balance across body, mind and spirit. Introduced on October 1, 2026, Sacred Renewal is an eight-, 11- or 15-night programme inspired by the lunar cycle and the five great elements of Indian philosophy, offering a deeper exploration of personal transformation and renewal. The sanctuary features two swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms and temperature-controlled plunge pools, alongside 76 rooms, suites and villas. A minimum stay of three nights applies, increasing to seven nights from December 20 to January 11. Children aged 16 and under may stay in villas only, with a maximum of one child per villa. Koh Samui's rainy season typically extends from late October through December, with November generally experiencing the heaviest rainfall.
