The dates
The Championships, Wimbledon run from Monday, June 28, to Sunday, July 11, 2027, at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in south-west London. 2027 marks 150 years since the first Championships, in 1877: the Club’s history dates the inaugural Lawn Tennis Championship to 1877, and its ballot page invites visitors to celebrate 150 years of The Championships.
The fortnight has a shape worth knowing. In the first week, matches are played across the outside courts as well as the show courts; by the second, play narrows to the show courts and the finals on the last weekend. For a first visit, I suggest a day in the first week, when there is the most to see on the outside courts.
The other dates that matter, for the ballot and the Queue, are set out below.
How tickets work
There are four ways into the grounds: the Public Ballot, the Queue, a debenture and official hospitality.
The Public Ballot
Most seats go through the Wimbledon Public Ballot, which for 2027 has now closed. Seats are allocated by an automated draw, with no choice of day, court or seat, and one application per household. Those not drawn are given access to the returns shop before The Championships.
The AELTC has not published the 2027 ballot’s own dates. As a guide only, the 2026 ballot opened on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and closed on Sunday, September 21, 2025, and successful applicants were sent offers from October 2025. For 2028, I would expect a similar window in the September before, and I check the AELTC’s page each summer.
Ballot tickets cannot be sold on or transferred, and any that are advertised for resale will be void.
The Queue
The Queue sells a limited number of Show Court and Grounds tickets each day, one for each person in it. The AELTC has not yet published its 2027 Queue page. In 2026 the Queue began the evening before, and each person in it was given a dated, numbered Queue card. It is a tradition of its own, and a long day.
Write to Jess Tell me which day you would like, and I will look at debentures and hospitality for it.
Debentures
A debenture gives a premium seat on Centre Court or No.1 Court for every day of five Championships. The current Centre Court series covers 2026 to 2030.
With it come the debenture-only restaurants and bars: The Champions’ Room, the Courtside Restaurant and the Courtside Brasserie.
Debentures change hands through a stockbroker or privately, and debenture tickets are the only Championships tickets that may be sold on. That is how a household without a debenture of its own can still have a debenture seat for a day: I arrange it with the rest of the stay.
The 2026 Debenture Handbook is relaxed about dress. Dressing up is optional, men do not need a jacket or tie in the debenture restaurants, and it asks guests to dress comfortably and come prepared for the British weather.
Official hospitality and what to wear
Keith Prowse is the Official Hospitality Partner of The Championships, and the 2027 programme includes:
- Le Gavroche at The Lawn
- The Lawn Private Suite
- the Rosewater Pavilion and its suites
- the Centre Court Skyview Suites
- HerStory at Tennis
Seats on Centre Court or No.1 Court come with the hospitality, subject to availability. For many households, this is the best way to Wimbledon: a reserved seat on a show court, a table for lunch and somewhere to return to between matches.
Keith Prowse sets the dress code for each venue, and its pages could not be read when I checked, so I confirm it with each booking. As a rule for any day at Wimbledon, smart summer clothes, comfortable shoes, a hat and something for the rain serve well.
Write to Jess A show-court seat and a table for lunch: write to me, and I will arrange the day.
A day at Wimbledon
A day at Wimbledon has its rituals, and the grounds are laid out around them.
The Hill is the slope where the crowd gathers in front of the big screen, and the Picnic Collection is served there.
Aorangi, by the practice courts, is described by the Club as a place for true tennis fans, with a choice of official partner experiences. Arriving early is the way to see the players practise.
And the strawberries. The Club’s 2026 food and drink guide says its strawberries come only from Hugh Lowe Farms in Kent, a family farm that has supplied Wimbledon for almost 30 years.
I plan the day around the order of play: the show court for the match you most want to see, an outside court in the morning, the Hill in the afternoon, and lunch at whichever table your ticket allows.
Getting there
The grounds are in south-west London, and the AELTC gives walking times from the three nearest stations:
- Southfields, on the District line: about 15 minutes.
- Wimbledon, on the District line, South Western Railway and the trams: about 20 minutes.
- Wimbledon Park, on the District line: about 25 minutes.
A Championships bus runs between Wimbledon station and the grounds. There are taxi ranks on Augustus Road, near Southfields, and outside Wimbledon station.
For most of my clients, a car and driver from the hotel to the gate is the simplest way, and I arrange the return for after the last match you want to see. The AELTC’s own pages give two different pick-up points on Somerset Road, so I confirm the right one before the day.
Write to Jess Wimbledon, Henley, Ascot and Glyndebourne in one summer: I plan the weeks around them.
The grass season
Wimbledon sits at the end of a few weeks of English summer that are worth planning as one, and the dates for 2027 are already published.
- Queen’s Club, the HSBC Championships: the women’s event from June 7 and the men’s from June 14, within an event that runs from June 5 to 20, 2027.
- Royal Ascot: Tuesday, June 15, to Saturday, June 19, 2027.
- Henley Royal Regatta: Tuesday, June 29, to Sunday, July 4, 2027, during the first week of Wimbledon.
- Glyndebourne Festival: May 20 to August 29, 2027, with new productions of Idomeneo, La Cenerentola and Jenůfa, and revivals of Carmen and La traviata.
Each has its own dress code and its own way in. Royal Ascot and Henley have their own enclosures and rules, and Glyndebourne has not yet said when booking opens to the public; its members book first. I arrange each with the rest of the stay, so a week in June can take in Ascot, Queen’s and a summer evening at Glyndebourne, and the first days of Wimbledon.
Where to stay
Wimbledon is in south-west London, and there are two ways to stay for it: by the river beyond the city, or in central London, with a car to the grounds each day.
The Mitre, Hampton Court is a boutique hotel on the banks of the Thames at East Molesey, in Surrey, steps from Hampton Court Palace and on the same south-western side of London as the grounds. Its bedrooms are each designed differently, its restaurants look over the river, and a morning at the palace or a boat on the Thames fills the days without tennis. For a household that would rather end the day by the water than in town, it is the one I choose.
The Savoy is on the Strand, overlooking the Thames: London’s original grand hotel, opened in 1889, with the American Bar, open since 1893, for the evening after the tennis. Its river-view suites look across to the London Eye.
Bvlgari Hotel London is at 171 Knightsbridge, on the edge of Hyde Park, on the western side of central London, the nearer of the two central hotels to Wimbledon. It has 85 rooms and suites and a 25-metre colonnaded pool, which is welcome after a long day in the sun.
Write to Jess Write to me with your dates, and I will start with the London stay.
A Wimbledon week
This is how I would shape five days around the first week of The Championships in 2027, staying at Bvlgari Hotel London. The dates are each organiser’s own.
- Sunday, June 27. Arrive and settle in, the day before The Championships begin.
- Monday, June 28. Opening day at Wimbledon, with a debenture seat or official hospitality, arriving early to see the players practise at Aorangi, and the afternoon on the show court.
- Tuesday, June 29. The first day of Henley Royal Regatta, a drive west from London, with lunch by the river.
- Wednesday, June 30. A second day at Wimbledon, the outside courts in the morning and the Hill in the afternoon.
- Thursday, July 1. An evening at Glyndebourne, if a performance falls that night, with the car there and back.
Questions, answered
When is Wimbledon 2027?
The Championships run from Monday, June 28, to Sunday, July 11, 2027. 2027 marks 150 years since the first Championships, in 1877.
Can I still enter the 2027 ballot?
No, the 2027 Public Ballot has closed. As a guide, the 2026 ballot opened on September 2, 2025, and closed on September 21, 2025, so if the pattern holds, the 2028 ballot will open in the September before.
Can Wimbledon tickets be bought on resale?
Ballot tickets cannot be sold on or transferred, and any advertised for resale will be void. Debenture tickets are the only Championships tickets that may be sold on.
What is a Wimbledon debenture?
A debenture gives a premium seat on Centre Court or No.1 Court for every day of five Championships, with access to debenture-only restaurants and bars. The current Centre Court series covers 2026 to 2030.
Who runs official hospitality at Wimbledon?
Keith Prowse is the Official Hospitality Partner. The 2027 programme includes Le Gavroche at The Lawn, The Lawn Private Suite, the Rosewater Pavilion, the Centre Court Skyview Suites and HerStory at Tennis.
Is there a dress code at Wimbledon?
In the debenture restaurants, the 2026 Debenture Handbook says dressing up is optional and men do not need a jacket or tie. Keith Prowse sets its own dress code for each hospitality venue, which I confirm with each booking.
What is the nearest station to Wimbledon?
Southfields, on the District line, about a 15-minute walk. Wimbledon station is about 20 minutes, and a Championships bus runs from there to the grounds.
Details checked November 3, 2026, against the All England Club’s own website and each organiser’s own site. Where an organiser has not yet published something, the page says so rather than guess.
