Granada

Met in Managua and driven to Granada. A private walking and carriage tour of the city: the San Francisco Church and its convent of 1529, now a museum of pre-Columbian art, the bell tower of La Merced for the view over the lake and Mombacho, the Pólvora fortress, the Xalteva Church and the old city walls.

Where you stay

Hotel Plaza Colón

Hotel Plaza Colón is a former family house in the centre of Granada, its façade kept as it was at the turn of the 19th century, with 27 rooms and suites around a courtyard pool.

Lake Nicaragua

A short boat ride out to the island. A morning by kayak among Las Isletas, past fishing communities and the birds of the lake, with Mombacho behind. A day of your own, for the lodge's activities or the pool.

Where you stay

Jicaro Island Ecolodge

Jicaro is a private island in Lake Nicaragua with nine two-storey casitas, each with a bedroom upstairs and a living room opening onto a deck over the lake, a short walk from the pool, the restaurant and the wellness centre. Meals are included, cooked in an open kitchen beside the restaurant.

The Pacific Coast

To the coast near San Juan del Sur. A zip-line canopy through the trees above the bay, a day of surf lessons on the beaches nearby, and time on the hacienda's own beach, where sea turtles nest between July and January. On the last day, the drive back to Managua for the flight home.

Where you stay

Morgan's Rock

Morgan's Rock is a hacienda and eco-lodge of 15 bungalows on a 1,800-hectare property on Nicaragua's Pacific coast, with an 800-hectare reserve of tropical forest. Much of the food is grown on the farm, and the fish comes from local fishermen.

Ways to make it yours

This is a sample. The hotels, the pace and the order are where we start, not where we finish: every journey is designed around the people taking it.

Made around you

Most travel is bought. This is designed.

Before anything is booked, we talk: who is travelling, how you like to spend a morning, and the hotel preferences below the obvious, from the kind of bath you like to the time you wake and how much daylight you need in a room. You see options where options matter and clean recommendations where they don't.

The same person remains your point of contact from the first reply to the trip after next. No handovers. No team.
